Guide to Installing Bathroom Vanities

As with any project, organization is the key. Make sure you have your tools ready. You’ll need:
Bathroom vanities aren’t difficult to install; however, if you’re replacing an existing bathroom vanity, it’s best to prepare for your installation.
You’re ready to install your new vanity.
Step 1: Put your new bathroom vanity in place and trace vanity’s outline on wall. Locate wall studs. You’ll screw the vanity to these studs. Using level, draw lines denoting studs, from floor to the top of where new vanity will rest. This will guide screw placement.
Step 2: If there’s a back to your new unit, measure position of supply and drain pipes, mark placement, and drill holes to accommodate. Put new vanity in place and set the level on top. If necessary, shim vanity at the floor until level. Now, place level at the side edge and shim at wall, if necessary, until unit is plumb.
Step 3: Attach unit to wall from the inside using 3” drywall screws. Attach through unit’s mounting rail into studs and check level to see if additional shims are required. If not, trim shims with utility knife. Excessive shims may require you to line side and/or floor with quarter round molding, using finishing nails.
