A Last-Minute Beauty Gift You Can DIY

Make this simple sugar scrub for a last-minute holiday gift idea.

With holiday preparations in full swing, it can be a challenge to find just the right gift for everyone on your list. That's why we partnered with Justine Slattery of Brooklyn Soapworks, to bring you this super easy, customizable sugar scrub that you can DIY at home. With just a few simple ingredients, your holiday gifting will be done in the blink of an eye. Plus, it smells so good you'll want to eat it!

What You'll Need:

  • 1/4 cup course cane sugar
  • 1 tbsp jojoba oil (apricot or almond oil are great alternatives)
  • 1 tbsp dried and ground orange peel (dried flowers or coffee grounds will work too)
  • 1- 3 to 4 oz jar
  • Small bowl
  • Mixing spoon
  • Ribbon or string
  • Kraft paper label

*Tip: To add a personal touch, include 5 to 10 drops of your favorite essential oil. We combined lavender and peppermint in ours.

Step 1: Begin by adding the sugar to your mixing bowl.

Step 2: Add the oil into your sugar mixture.

Tip: Add a bit more oil, if you want a super moisturizing scrub, or less for a dry scrub.

Step 3: Add your bitter orange or coffee, and if desired, include a several drops of essential oil.

Step 4: Stir combined ingredients until oil is distributed nicely throughout, and dry ingredients are evenly incorporated.

Step 5: Use the mixing spoon to transfer the sugar scrub into your jar of choice.

Tip: Make sure the jar is clean and dry, so your scrub will keep longer. Then tie a bow around the lid or neck of your jar, and add your gift label to personalize your scrub.

Voila! Your holiday gift is ready to go.
