You CAN Make This Faux Mercury Glass Tumbler in a Half Hour
Transform those boring plain tumblers at home with a touch of mid-century style (hello, Roger Sterling!). You can give them a mercury-glass look with a can of mirror-finish spray paint and just a few simple steps. Here's your quick guide.
What You'll Need:
- Glass tumblers
- Mirror-finish spray paint
- Painter's tape
- Paper towels
- Spray bottle
- White vinegar
Step 1: Thoroughly clean the glass tumblers with warm soap and water, then dry. Using the painters tape, make a clean line exposing the area to be painted. Cover the area that will not be painted with paper towels and tape.
Step 2: Mix a solution of equal parts water and white vinegar in a spray bottle. I used a half-cup each. Shake together.
Step 3: Turn tumbler upside down and lightly spray with the vinegar solution. Next, apply a light layer of spray paint to the exposed glass. Allow to dry for one minute.
Step 4: After one minute, dab off freshly painted area with a paper towel. The areas that were treated with the vinegar solution will reveal a crackled effect.
Step 5: Pour yourself a drink and enjoy!
