Indulge in Summer Mornings With a Beachy DIY Tray
Who says summer has to be all about vacation? Save the hassle of travel and enjoy yourself at home with a good old fashioned staycation! Make the most out of the mornings by lingering in bed just a little longer with coffee and a good book. With this crafty beachy tray to serve up your cup of joe (and if you're lucky a significant other to make it for you), you'll never even know you're not on vaca!
What You'll Need:
Wooden tray (any size)
Drill with 3/4" forstner drill bit
Clear nail polish
Step 1: Start by measuring out where to place your rope handles. You will need to drill 2 holes equal distances from the edge. Mark the spots with a pencil. Do this on both sides of your tray.
Step 2: Using a drill and forstner drill bit, drill the holes where you marked with your pencil. Sand down the edges around the holes to knock off any splinters.
Step 3: Spray paint your tray. It may take a few coats of paint (allow adequate drying time between coats as directed on the back of the bottle of paint). Here we used a glossy finish which will clean up easier.
Step 4: While your paint is drying on the tray, cut 2 pieces of rope. Tie a knot at the end of each strand of rope. Trim the end piece of the knot with your scissors.
Step 5: Use nail polish to seal the end of the knot. This will keep the end from fraying.
Step 6: Once the tray is done drying, thread your rope through both of the holes, leaving a knot on the inside of the tray to create handles.
Step 7: Tie the end of the rope on the inside of the tray (creating approximately equal sized handles) and snip off any excess rope.
Step 8: Use more nail polish to seal the other end of the rope knot. Let dry and get serving!
