How to Mix Wine and Junk Food

Like Jan says in Grease, wine goes with Twinkies (“It says right here, it’s a ‘dessert wine!’”) Follow this rule: The junkier the food, the more rare the wine should be.
  1. Rosé + Cool Ranch Doritos

    Why?

Rosés pair well with garlic, herbs and onion since the fruit cuts the spice.

  2. Austrian Red + Beef Jerky

    Why?

This lean, spicy red wine goes well with salty foods like cured meat.

  3. Chardonnay + Butterfinger

    Why?

Acidic chardonnays with flavors of vanilla and oak complement the buttery nougat.

  4. Champagne + French Fries

    Why?

A sparkling wine cuts through the starch in potatoes, and the bubbles have a cleansing effect on the palate.

  5. Sherry + Ice Cream

    Why?

This wine’s complex flavor of fruit, molasses and nuts makes it the perfect accent to ice cream’s smooth texture.
