Mustard Baths Are The Best Wellness Treatment You Didn’t Know Existed
Mustard baths are an aromatic and alkalizing way to eliminate acid waste and balance the body's pH, with a rich history of Ayurvedic science and Western research to support these claims. While mustard is traditionally renowned for its stimulating, cleansing, and rejuvenating qualities (mustard seed oil has also shown promise as a potential remedy for malaria)– hot water and mustard also helps the skin release impurities. As such, mustard powder baths are often used to relieve stress, muscle and joint soreness, and congestion while addressing skin conditions, periodic tension, and sleeplessness.
As the cold weather starts to set in, we recommend experimenting with mustard seed bath formulations in order to stay fit and healthy this holiday season. Our team likes Dr. Singha's ayurvedic formula, which consists of mustard seed powder and essential oils of wintergreen, eucalyptus, rosemary, and thyme (all of which are anti-inflammatories that help relieve tension– you can also buy mustard powder and make your own mix).
For a foot bath, dissolve 1 Tbsp of mustard bath formula in a bowl of hot water. Soak for 20 minutes and finish with a short cold soak.
