HGTV’s Sabrina Soto Shares How to Make Your Home Feel Bigger and Brighter
While you may not be able to make your home physically bigger, there are definitely ways to make it feel like it is. We sat down with HGTV's Sabrina Soto who teamed up with Velux to get her tips on making your home feel open, airy and light when you don't have the ability, budget or time to expand.
Take advantage of the fifth wall–the ceiling. “There's so much potential now, especially with everybody loving shiplap, tongue in groove ceilings, and exposed beams. You can do so much to make a space feel a lot bigger," Sabrina says.
Go with a lighter paint color. Light greys, whites and light blues definitely help to open up an otherwise small space. If you don't get a whole lot of natural light throughout the day, light walls help keep the space feel open.
Play around with your furniture arrangement.“Maybe it's time to let go of big sets, taking bigger pieces out or maybe just switching it up can make a space feel a lot bigger," Sabrina says.
Consider a skylight. If you don't get a lot of natural sunlight, consider investing in skylights. “We have skylights in the living room, dining room and upstairs in our bathroom and I wish we had them in every single room in the house because I feel like I'm almost outdoors when I'm inside the house!" Sabrina says.
