Share Your Proposal Story, Win a Romantic Getaway
Calling all engaged couples! Tell us how he (or you!) popped the question for your chance to win a five-night Caribbean getaway.
Got writer's block? I'm the new site director for TheNest.com, and here's my proposal story to help you get started:
Chris asked me to marry him a decade ago, back when we were in our early 20s. We met as newspaper reporters in Columbus, Ohio, and became fast friends. He was living with his college girlfriend at the time, and I had just ended a four-year romance, so friendship is as far as our relationship went. I moved to Washington, DC, and we stayed in touch.
About a year later, we were both single. Chris came to the District to cover the match between DC United and the Columbus Crew, and we fell in love. He relocated to be with me, and we moved into a tiny basement-level apartment underneath a row house on Capitol Hill.
Three months later, we got engaged. After an intimate dinner at a Latin-fusion restaurant in the Distict's Penn Quarter neighborhood, we returned home and Chris built a fire in our fireplace and gave me roses. We sipped champagne and danced to Shakira. I got giddy and did a silly runway strut in my LBD. When I reached the end of my catwalk (a path of rose petals), Chris got down on one knee and proposed. It was a special, quirky night that I'll always remember.
