Robin Baron Design expertly created the effect of higher ceilings and an open floor plan in this Manhattan apartment.

Interior designer and lifestyle expert Robin Baron of Robin Baron Design is known for her striking yet warm and inviting spaces. Recently, she put two apartments together on the Upper East Side to create a totally gorgeous space. Full of unique and eye-catching pieces, its vibe is luxurious yet comfortable. Take a look at the photos and check out Robin's thoughts on and inspiration for the project below.

Robin explains her thoughts behind the process. Because it's a postwar building, the ceilings are not very high. So, Robin says, "I wanted to create the feeling of height and some drama, so we decided to create an open floor plan. When you walk in immediately from the foyer, we also put the mirror with the columns for a heightened, sculptural effect."

In the kitchen, she explains, "I love the glass upper cabinetry that's above the stools because it allows the light from the windows to come into the kitchen, so you have a lot of windows and a lot of light. I think that really adds to a New York City apartment."

Before becoming an interior designer, Robin came from a background in fashion. "Because I started as a fashion designer, I do customize and design so many things, and it really influences how I see things like lighting, hardware, accessories" In this particular apartment, she herself designed the light fixture in the dining room. She frequently does a lot of lighting and hardware design, "because to me that's like jewelry. It really punctuates the space. It's like wearing a great pair of earrings. It just enhances everything."

When describing her personal design aesthetic, she says, "My whole raison d'être as a designer is to empower my clients through their home, that's why my tagline is 'Confidence begins at home.' I don't like to think that I have just one look. But, my own personal style is eclectic with a glam spin on it." She loves playing with texture, particularly in this apartment, like the Venetian wall treatments, the different materials on countertops and backsplashes, especially in the kitchen.
